In the year 1867, shortly after the Emancipation Proclamation,
Before Pineville Church was organized blacks and whites worshiped together at Mt. Zion Baptist Church believing and serving one God. In 1867, the blacks decided to build their own place of worship, not because they had disagreed with the whites, but because they wanted a Church in their own community. The white members of Mt. Zion would visit Pineville during revivals and other events.
Pineville purchased ten acres of land from the G. M. & O. Railroad Company. The first Church they built had a wood frame and a dirt floor, it wall also used as a school, this Church later burned down. After that disaster, another wood frame Church and school was built by the members.
In 1963, plans for a new Church were made. This was a brick Church and it had three hundred and fifty members.
In 1970, the Church was enlarged, adding and education department and a dinning hall. In 1974, the Church purchased a bus for the convenience of those deprived of transportation. Since then, several other buses were purchased; the most recent one was February 1992. In 1975, a Fellowship Hall was built.
The Pastors of Pineville were as follows: Rev. Jacob Powe, Rev. J.J. Jordan, Rev. Oscar Hawkins, Rev. Jordan Hardaway, Rev. Alex Davis, Rev. Green Richey, Rev. Jerry Whigham, Rev. Allen Orange, Rev. Willie Harman, Rev. Boston Powe, Rev. David Evans, Rev. Arthur Clayton, and Rev. MK Duncan, who served for 46 years. In 1992 Rev. Sam McDonald, Jr. was called to serve as pastor.
In 1990, due to health problems, Rev MK Duncan became unable to serve as Pastor, the Church selected Rev. JW Chambers as assistant Pastor. Pastor Chambers did a wonderful job for two years. Under his leadership, eighteen new members were added to the Church. During that time a Trustee Board was established; Brother Robert G. McDonald, Brother Bruce Everett, Brother Willie Henderson, Brother Ronnie Davis, Brother Marvin Chambers, Brother Felix Davis and Brother Jimmie White.
The past Deacons were: Deacon Edward Powe, Deacon Willie Powe, Deacon Billy Powe, Deacon Jordan Powe, Deacon Mack Powe, Deacon Willie Busby, Deacon Henry Gates, Deacon Osborn Chambers, Deacon Anderson Williams, Deacon John Davis, Deacon West Davis, Deacon William Davis, Deacon Mitchell Ford, Sr., Deacon Varnell Bruner, Deacon Lewis Moore, Deacon Nathaniel Bruner, Deacon Robert Davis, Deacon Alex McDonald, Sr., Deacon Mitchell Ford, Jr., Deacon John A. Davis, Deacon Namon Lewis, Sr., and Deacon Jimmie White.
The current Deacons are Deacon Robert H. Davis, Deacon Keary McDonald, Deacon Jessie L . Davis, Deacon Ronnie Davis, Sr., and Deacon Marvin Chambers. The Trustees are Brother Robert G. McDonald, Brother Willie Henderson, Brother Felix Davis, Brother Bruce Everett, and Brother Derrick Chambers.
The Church organizations are very active in community affairs. Youth and Senior Choirs, Male Chorus, Home Mission, Red Circle , Pastor’s Aid, Usher Board and Sunday School, consisting of eight classes are doing an outstanding job in the Service of God.
On Sunday December 19th 2010 Pastor Sam McDonald, Jr. resign as pastor of Pineville Baptist Church in order to go full time at Pine Valley Baptist Church in Taylorsville. Our pulpit is vacant and we are in search of a new pastor with directions of the Holy Spirit.
On May 6th, 2012, Samuel C. Newton, of Hattiesburg, MS, was elected the 15th pastor of PMBC. With his pastoral background, Pastor Newton assumed the task with a God given understanding of the character of the Church.
